Towkay lauds the pain, joy and passions of proprietorships, particularly in the hawker trade that is peculiar to Singaporeans. Incidentally, the celebration of a hawker culture also resonates with the artist whose parents are hawkers themselves. The looming figure of a suited gentleman proceeding to cut the ribbon in a less-than-ideal environment is suggestive of the role of a mentor or financial investor in every venture, reminding us all that everyone plays a role in the successes of others - each one of us being stakeholders in our own right.
